Vol. 67 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensions Scheme for Railwaymen.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when he hopes to be in a position to make a statement regarding the action he intends to take to give effect to the provisions of the Railways Act in the matter of the formulation of a suitable pensions scheme for railwaymen, and whether in view of the delay that has taken place he will indicate what steps he has taken or proposes to take in the matter.

The provisions of the Railways Act, 1933, in the matter of a superannuation scheme for the employees of the Amalgamated Company have been discharged in that a scheme was duly presented to the Railway Tribunal and reported on as not meeting the reasonable requirements of the employees.

I have since been in touch with representatives of the employees and with the company, but so far it has not been found possible to arrive at a modification, acceptable to both parties, of the scheme which was submitted to the Railway Tribunal.
