Vol. 123 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Debts to Republic.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount of debts owed to the Government and people of the Republic of Ireland and if any steps have been taken to recover them.

I assume the Deputy has in mind debts owed to the State by external Governments. The only debts of this kind are those in respect of injuries to property and persons caused by bombing and kindred incidents, including mine explosions, during and since the war. The total amount involved under this head is a little over £500,000.

The answer to the second part of the Deputy's question is in the affirmative.
