Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Signing Centres.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will sanction the establishment of signing centres for the unemployed at Loughamore and Cloughvalley, County Donegal.

Only in the most exceptional circumstances could the establishment of a signing centre for the unemployed within six miles of an existing centre or local office of the Department be considered. It does not appear that the circumstances are such as to warrant the extension of special treatment to the areas mentioned, both of which are less than six miles from an existing centre.

Granted that these districts are less than six miles from an existing centre, would the Parliamentary Secretary not take into account the condition of the roads over which unemployed people have to travel to these centres?

My information is, and I know of my own personal knowledge, that the roads are very good in that area and the Deputy has one of the best labour exchanges in the country.

Unfortunately, it is the only good building we have.
