Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Bus Service.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the general dissatisfaction which exists in regard to the lack of adequate bus service for school children residing in the Ballyfermot area and that a considerable number of these children must travel to schools near the centre of the city, and whether, in view of the present unsatisfactory position, he will make representations to Córas Iompair Éireann as to the need for a special service for such children.

Arrangements were made with Córas Iompair Éireann for a special bus service for the conveyance of children from the Ballyfermot area to and from certain national schools in Dublin City, pending the erection of new schools in Ballyfermot. The service was put into operation on 2nd November, 1949, when three double-deck buses were made available. Since then additional buses have been provided according as the necessity arose. There are at present 18 buses engaged on this service.

I am not aware of any dissatisfaction with the present arrangement.
