Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rhode (Offaly) Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state why Offaly County Council did not carry out part of the approved scheme for drainage at Tubberdaly, Rhode, Offaly, and if he will state whether the delay in having this work carried out was caused by the county council or by his Department.

In the case of the approved section of the scheme for drainage at Rhode, the Department informed the Offaly County Council that it would be necessary to have the stream levelled in order to obtain a uniform gradient. The necessary levels have now been taken and further documents have been furnished to the Department. The council have been informed that there is no objection to the carrying out of the work in accordance with these documents. The undertaking of the work under the Local Authorities (Works) Act which has been approved for execution with the aid of grant is the responsibility of the local authority concerned.
