asked the Minister for Education if he will state (a) the percentage figures of failures in Latin in the Leaving Certificate examination in each of the last three years, and (b) whether a comparison between these figures indicates a serious increase in 1957 over the figures in 1955 and 1956.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leaving Certificate Examination: Failures in Latin.
The percentage figures of failures in Latin at the Leaving Certificate examination in each of the last three years were:—1955: 24; 1956: 25; 1957: 28.
I do not consider that a comparison between these figures indicates a serious increase in the percentage figure of failures in 1957 as compared with 1956 and 1955.
