Vol. 164 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Searching of F.C.A. Members.

asked the Minister for Defence whether members of the F.C.A. were searched when leaving Collins Barracks on 12th July, 1957, after handing in their equipment on their return from training at Gormanston, and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

Members of the F.C.A. were not searched at Collins Barracks on the 12th July, 1957. On that day, however, a small party of the F.C.A. when leaving the barracks carrying suitcases and other luggage, were required to submit those articles for search. This was in accordance with Barrack Standing Orders under which personnel of the Defence Forces leaving barracks with any such articles must be in possession of permits for their removal. The members in question did not have the requisite permits.
