Note 1. - The above figures are based on recoupment claims submitted by local authorities and relate to the year ended 30th April. The figures for 1956/57 and some figures in the earlier years are subject to revision.
Note 2. - As indicated when the Department's Estimate was being introduced (Dail Debates, Vol. 161, No. 7, col. 900), it is not proposed to allocate grants for schemes in the present financial year. In a limited number of cases, local authorities were allowed continue work for some months beyond 30/4/57 to complete schemes for which grants had already been allocated. Figures are not available for expenditure on these schemes after 30/4/57.
