Vol. 164 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Land Rehabilitation Grants.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the number of applications for land rehabilitation grants received from applicants in West Cork awaiting attention by his Department, and when it is likely that they will be dealt with.

The Deputy is no doubt aware that statistical returns by county regarding the operation of the land project are circulated quarterly to Dáil Deputies. The next return will be circulated shortly. It is not the practice to compile statistics for parts of counties and, as has already been indicated in replies to previous similar questions, the provision at more frequent intervals of special statistics on the lines asked for in the Deputy's question would entail an expenditure of official time which would not be justified.

Would the Minister say if any instructions were issued to the local supervisors in West Cork to inform farmers that their applications would have to be deferred and could not be dealt with at present?

I am not so aware.

The Minister is not so aware? That is the information I want.
