asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state what effect, if any, the increase in the bank rate will have on the rents charged to tenants of the Dublin County Council and the Dun Laoghaire Corporation.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Effect of Increase in Bank Rate on Rents.
The recent increase in the bank interest rate has no bearing or effect on the rents payable by the tenants of existing local authority houses. As to the rents to be charged in the future this will be a matter for the local authorities, who will, I am sure, determine rents having regard to the paying capacity of the tenants.
