Vol. 164 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment for Blind Workers.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare what financial provisions have been made to enable the Board for the Employment of the Blind to retain blind workers in employment at the Richmond Institute.

The board will be entitled to receive payment of the usual annual capitation grants payable by the State and the local authorities from the date on which it starts employing blind workers and any annual deficits on its working will be met by contributions from local authorities in proportion to the rateable valuation of their areas, subject to a maximum of the yield of one-halfpenny in the pound.

In order to assist the board to commence operations, Dublin Corporation has agreed, subject to certain conditions, to lend the board £5,500 as a payment in advance on food of contributions and grants in future years.
