Vol. 199 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Manufacture of Borgward Motor Car.

20.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what efforts, if any, were made to purchase for this country the machinery, etc., of the Borgward Motor Industry, Bremen, in view of a report that the machinery was purchased by a Mexican financial group with the intention of manufacturing the Borgward car in Mexico, and in view of the fact that such an industry would have been a valuable asset to this country on account of its employment and export potential.

I have read the newspaper report to which the Deputy refers. I am aware that certain private interests here have been examining the possibility of acquiring portion of the Borgward plant in Bremen.
