Vol. 199 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Offensive Trades.

31.

andMr. Kyne asked the Minister for Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the report for 1961 of the Dublin Health Authority, in which the medical officer of health complains of the difficulty of enforcing the present bye-laws with regard to the keeping of pigs, and emphasises the necessity for bye-laws for the control of offensive trades; and whether in conjunction with the Minister for Health, he will investigate the dangers to public health caused by these factors, and initiate improvements in public health legislation to prevent such dangers.

I am aware of the report referred to. My Department has been in correspondence with Dublin Corporation in regard to the matters mentioned. I understand that the sanitary authority is considering the adoption of revised bye-laws with regard to the keeping of animals and the control of offensive trades.

The question of amendment of the law in relation to these matters is being borne in mind by my Department in conjunction with the proposed general revision of sanitary services legislation and the Minister for Health will be consulted on any aspects with which he may be concerned.
