asked the Minister for Local Government the highest and lowest contract prices sanctioned for isolated council cottages erected in the 12 months to a recent date in the following counties: Meath, Cavan, Louth, Monaghan, Kildare and Westmeath.
Ceisteanna—Questious. Oral Answers. - Price of Council Cottages.
It is not possible to give, from the records of my Department, information in the precise form requested by the Deputy. I propose however, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate, with the Official Report, a statement showing the highest and lowest tender prices sanctioned by me for the normal type of isolated council cottage in the 12 months ended 31st October, 1970, in these counties.
Following is the statement:

NOTES:
1. No proposals for the acceptance of tenders for the provision of isolated rural cottages were submitted by Kildare County Council.
2. The-tender prices given represent the cost of development, site works and superstructures.
Has the Department a policy of encouraging or discouraging county councils in the erection of county council cottages?
We have a policy of encouraging local authorities to provide housing for those who require it.
Do the Department encourage this particular type of housing to be provided in the form of estates or isolated cottages?
Different applicants have different circumstances which would require different solutions. It would be impossible to answer the Deputy's question in one short statement.
