asked the Taoiseach if he will state the amount per head of the population taken in total taxation for the years 1969-70 and 1970-71; and the estimated amount for 1971-72.

The amount per head of the population taken in total taxation for the years 1969-1970 and 1970-71 was £149 and £174 respectively and the estimated amount for 1971-72 is £202.

Total taxation, as defined in the national accounts, comprises taxes on income, including social insurance contributions, taxes on expenditure, including rates, and taxes on capital.
