Vol. 262 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Female Factory Inspectors.

32.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of female factory inspectors; and if, in view of the fact that large numbers of young women are not at present organised in trade unions, he will take action to increase the number of female factory inspectors who will concentrate on the working conditions of women employees.

The number of female industrial inspectors in the Department of Labour is three.

The enforcement of worker protection legislation can be done by either a man or woman. The required standards are laid down by law and any qualified inspector male or female can check-on workplaces to see that these standards are maintained and report on any deficiencies.
