Vol. 262 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drogheda Road Scheme

50.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate, on the basis of his capital allocation for this year and his intentions for succeeding years, when the composite road scheme, comprising a new bridge across the river Boyne and demolition and road construction at Saint George's Square, John Street, Bull Ring, James' Street and Dublin Road, Drogheda will be completed.

Responsibility for the execution of the proposed scheme rests with Drogheda Borough Council and it is for the council to determine the time schedule for the various operations having regard to local circumstances. The council have prepared a four-year programme for the first phase of the project, including property acquisition and contract procedures, estimated to cost £600,000. In accordance with normal practice, expenditure on this phase will be supported by appropriate Road Funds grants. A programme for the balance of the proposed scheme has not been submitted by the council.
