Vol. 263 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Servants' Pension Rights.

76.

asked the Minister for Finance the arrangements made with regard to the pension rights of members of the Civil Service who will transfer to EEC institutions after 1st January, 1973.

The arrangements regarding the pension rights of civil servants who transfer to European Economic Community institutions are at present being finalised, but it is the intention that the pension rights of a civil servant, who transfers with the permission of the head of his Department, will be preserved.

In broad terms a civil servant will be allowed to reckon service with an EEC institution towards his Civil Service superannuation provided he does not qualify for a pension from the institution. If he retires from the institution with a pension he will be eligible for a Civil Service pension based on his actual Irish service and on the salary appropriate to his Irish post at the time of his retirement.
