Vol. 268 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Curragh Detainees.

18.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that some detainees in the Curragh have had no visits by relatives or friends during the past nine months; and if he is in a position to explain why this is so.

On 5th March, 1973, a group of prisoners, in support of certain demands, stopped receiving visits and sending out letters. This situation continued up to 9th November, 1973, when these prisoners were transferred to civil custody.

Would it be possible for the Minister to say if the change of location of the prisoners brings about any change, in fact, in this particular regard as compared with that which has obtained since last March?

So long as the matter is the responsibility of the Minister for Justice I cannot from the information I have here tell the Deputy what he wishes to know.
