Vol. 322 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Tree Campaign.

17.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will designate 1981 as a special year in which people will be encouraged by a national campaign to plant trees.

While a special campaign in 1981 is not envisaged I can assure the Deputy that no opportunity will be lost to continue publicity for my Department's scheme of planting grants to encourage and assist private forestry—a scheme which, incidentally, I have recently made more attractive—and for the free advisory service which operates as part of that scheme. In addition, the ongoing liaison between the Department and the various relevant voluntary bodies will be maintained.

The Minister should make sure he knows more about the planting of trees than he does about fishermen in Donegal.
