Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Allergy Clinic.

283.

asked the Minister for Health if he will approve the establishment of an allergy clinic in the Eastern Health Board area and provide the additional funding required for its establishment.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the establishment of an allergy clinic at St. Laurence's Hospital, Dublin. The position is that the provision of such a clinic was discussed between officers of the Department and representatives of the Eastern Health Board and of St. Laurence's Hospital, in 1981.

No provision was made to fund the appointment of the additional staff required to bring the clinic into operation having regard to restrictions on funding generally and the pressing demands of services which had a higher priority.

I will keep the proposal under review in the context of the availability of funds for additional staff.
