Vol. 373 No. 4

Written Answers. - Agricultural Rates Arrears.

170.

asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount due to local authorities in respect of agricultural rates at the time of their abolition; the total amount outstanding in respect of agricultural rates at the latest date for which figures are available; the steps, if any, which are being taken to ensure collection of the outstanding rates; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

At the end of 1982 arrears of rates on land stood at £20,532,759 and according to the most up to date returns from local authorities it appears that £612,540 of this amount has since been paid. As regards the collection of rates I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 83 of 7 May 1987.
