Vol. 387 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hospitals Food Preparation System.

160.

asked the Minister for Health the amount of money spent to date and the amount of money proposed to be spent on the cook/chill food preparation system for hospitals in the South Eastern Health Board region.

A limited cook/chill food preparation system was introduced in Wexford Hospital 13 years ago at an approximate capital cost of £40,000. The Wexford system serves a number of hospitals at present. The capital cost of providing a cook/chill system to cater for the new Wexford and Ardkeen hospitals would cost £300,000 each. The health board have proposed the installation of a cook/chill system in South Tipperary at a cost of approximately £0.75 million. The board expect that the revenue savings resulting from the introduction of a cook/chill system would offset this capital expenditure in a relatively short period of time. My Department is currently considering the board's proposals to install cook/chill systems in South Tipperary.
