Question:

159 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment the number of private houses which were purchased by local authorities in (i) 1989 and (ii) to date in 1990; and the total cost of house purchase for each of these two years.

On the basis of information furnished to my Department by housing authorities, 11 houses were purchased in 1989 and nine houses have been purchased to date in 1990 at costs, excluding any necessary repair work, legal expenses etc., of £282,530 and £210,000 respectively.
