Question:

195 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health if he will give the names and addresses of all the privately run old persons homes and/or nursing homes in (i) Sligo and (ii) Leitrim which are eligible for subsidisation by the North-Western Health Board for the cost of residents there; and the criteria used in the selection of such old persons' nursing homes for such subsidisation.

The following nursing homes are approved for subventions under section 54, Health Act, 1970: Nazareth House, Sligo; St. Joseph's Garden Hill, Sligo. Nursing homes are approved by the Minister for Health for the purposes of section 54, Health Act, 1970.

As no new homes have been approved since 1980, the health board is not in a position to pay section 54 subventions towards the cost of care of the elderly persons in nursing homes established since that date.
