Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Recognition of Teaching Abroad.

John Bruton

Question:

218 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the arrangements for the recognition for pension and increment purposes of service by Irish teachers in schools in other European countries; and if there are any EC or Council of Europe proposals to provide mutual recognition in these matters.

In the case of primary and post-primary teachers incremental credit is allowed for approved teaching experience abroad up to a maximum of seven years, subject to a maximum of four years in respect of service given prior to 1 June 1979.

Such service is not reckonable for superannuation purposes.

There are no EC or Council of Europe proposals to provide mutual recognition in the matters referred to by the Deputy.
