Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Timetable Information.

John Bruton

Question:

220 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if her Department collect timetable information from all second level schools; the frequency with which this information must be provided; the use made of the information; and the cost of the collection of it.

Second level schools are required to forward completed timetable forms to my Department in September each year.

These timetable forms, which give details of the assignment of staff and the allocation of time to the various subjects on the curriculum together with the days of school closure, are considered essential for a number of reasons, including the determination of whether conditions for payment of salary are fulfilled, the consideration of staffing questions and the planning of programmes of inspection.

Procedures for dealing with this information vary from school to school and, therefore, it is not possible to give the cost of collecting this information.
