Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Re-engagement of Former State Employees.

Peter Barry

Question:

224 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Education if, since 1989, any former State employees have been engaged, either permanently or on contract, by her Department; and if so, if she will give (i) their names, (ii) the terms of their employment or contract, (iii) the salary being paid to them and (iv) the pension, if any, payable to them from the State.

Since 1 January 1989, eight former State employees have taken up permanent employment in my Department. Six of the eight were formerly employed by Teagasc and the other two were employed at the Carysfort Primary Teacher Training College. The redevelopment to my Department was handled by the Civil Service Commission which recertified the officers as divisional inspector (1), assistant principal officers (5), executive officer (1) and clerical officer (1). The terms of the officers' employment are similar to those which apply to all officials serving in those particular grades. Likewise, the salary scales which govern the salaries of these officers are the same scales which apply to all divisional inspectors, standard scale APOs, EOs and COs in the Civil Service. No pension is payable at this stage.
