Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Services for Schools.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

67 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health if he has any plans to carry out studies this year to determine the effectiveness or otherwise of the medical services for schools; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Statistics on the school health examination service are submitted to my Department annually by the health boards and its operation is kept under review on an on-going basis. I am satisfied that the service provides an effective means of screening school children to ensure that any defects or disorders which may inhibit their normal development are detected at the earliest possible stage.
