Vol. 401 No. 2

Written Answers. - Fishery Offences.

Austin Deasy

Question:

35 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice the number of (i) Irish and (ii) foreign net fishermen who have been imprisoned for fishery offences over the past ten years; and if he will give details of each such case.

The information sought by the Deputy is not readily available and its compilation would require the expenditure of staff time to an extent that could not be warranted. The annual reports on prisons and places of detention, which have been published for the years up to and including 1988, provide, at table seven, the information that is available in relation to the number of persons imprisoned for offences under the Fisheries Act.
