Vol. 410 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit Signing Arrangements.

Seán Ryan

Question:

101 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Justice, if, in view of the distance, cost of transport, and general inconvenience involved for members of the public in the Portrane and Donabate areas of County Dublin who have to attend at Swords Garda station to sign on for unemployment benefit, he will arrange with the Garda Commissioner for this to take place in Donabate.

While understanding that signing arrangments can sometimes produce a certain amount of inconvenience for unemployed persons, it is not always possible for the Garda authorities to make alternative arrangements such as those suggested by the Deputy. The arrangements suggested would, in effect, tie up gardaí in administrative duties whose services are more needed for ordinary policing duties.
