Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

269 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if the necessary funds will be made available to Kildare County Council for the augmentation of the sewage treatment plant at Leixlip, County Kildare, with a view to the elimination of the offensive odour which currently emanates from the plant; if so, when; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

270 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the offensive odour which emanates from the sewage treatment plant at Osberstown, Naas, County Kildare; if there are any plans in hand to update the plant; if funds are likely to be made available for such a project; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 269 and 270 together.

I am aware of the odour problems associated with these sewage treatment plants. I understand that these problems have been investigated by Kildare County Council and that full reports have been prepared. As yet, no proposals have been made to my Department for the improvement of the plants.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

271 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received contract documents from Dún Laoghaire Corporation for the Dún Laoghaire water supply improvement scheme; if so, when they will be approved; and the amount of finance that will be provided in 1993 to progress this scheme.

I refer to the reply to Question No. 54 of 29 April, 1992. The position is unchanged pending decisions on the 1993 water and sanitary services programme.
