Question:

28 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence if he will give a breakdown of the total cost involved to date for his Department under the Government's current programme of decentralisation; if he will clarify the costs and relevant payments to personnel with regard to the relocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Breakdown of Decentralisation Costs.

Fitting out of Building in Galway	446,000
Transfer of records etc. to Galway	21,000
Telecommunications links, equipment and cabling etc	101,000
* Ex-gratia Allowances for some staff	6,000
Travel and Subsistence costs since 1989	185,000
Postal costs Dublin/Galway since 1989	10,000
Total	769,000

* Staff transferring from provincial locations to Galway and who came to Dublin for training prior to decentralising were paid ex gratia allowances totalling £6,000 in respect of their transitional periods in Dublin. Personnel who relocated to Galway under decentralisation did so on a voluntary basis and removal expenses were not payable.
