Vol. 439 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Question:

143 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when payment of a beef premium applied for in spring 1993 will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person named applied for special beef premium on two animals in January-February 1993. However, because he did not submit the cattle identity cards for stamping and punching, as required under the terms and conditions of the scheme, before he sold the animals, he was deemed ineligible for payment.

He also applied for special beef premium on two animals in June 1993 and was paid 60 per cent advance in accordance with EU regulations on foot of that application on 15 December 1993. Payment of the balance due under the 1993 special beef premium scheme cannot be made until all applications received from him in the course of 1993 have been processed. This is necessary to ensure compliance with EU regulations covering in particular the ceiling on eligible animals and stocking density.
