Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Seán Haughey

Question:

115 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Marine the offices under the control of his Department which have been relocated from Dublin under the decentralisation programme since the year 1987; the locations of the new offices; the number of jobs transferred; and the further proposals, if any, he has in this regard.

No offices under the control of the Department of the Marine have been decentralised since 1987 and I have no proposals in this regard at present.

I would note in the context of the question that the Department of the Marine is in fact already well decentralised with a range of locations and personnel around the coast. The locations include the fishery harbour centres at Killybegs, Rossaveal, Castletownbere, Dunmore East and Howth. Personnel who are decentralised include engineers, marine surveyors and sea-fishery inspectorate staff. The accounts branch of the Department is, moreover located in Castlebar, County Mayo. One third of the Department's staff are dispersed; of the remainder many fall into specialised technical and scientific categories.
