Vol. 442 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Equality Proofing.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

44 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the decisions, if any, he has taken that have been equality proofed in 1993; and the criteria used to equality proof decisions taken within his Department.

In line with Government policy all decisions taken by me, including those in 1993, are on the basis of equality, fairness and nondiscrimination. I would point out that a significant number of women were appointed by me to the boards of State-Sponsored Bodies and that all State entities under the aegis of my Department are equal opportunity employers. The Department has also been involved in the sponsoring of specific measures in the public transport area to facilitate people with disabilities.

Question:

45 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the decisions, if any, he has taken that have been equality proofed in 1993; and the criteria used to equality proof decisions taken within his Department.

Equality proofing involves the assessment of the differential impact which a decision may have on women or on disadvantaged groups. All decisions I take have appropriate regard to these matters.
