Vol. 443 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin School Premises.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

111 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if reports that it is intended to convert Coláiste Caoimhín, Parnell Road, Dublin 12, into a probation centre are correct; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Coláiste Caoimhín is a voluntary secondary school. In 1991 the school's trustees took a decision to phase out and close the school at the end of the 1993-94 school year.

My Department is satisfied that sufficient post-primary places are available in accessible schools for children who would normally have expected to attend Coláiste Caoimhín.

My Department understands that the Department of Justice is interested in acquiring the school building to help the Probation and Welfare Service in its task.
