Vol. 444 No. 1

Written Answers. - Proposed Electoral Bill.

Robert Molloy

Question:

80 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment the reason the proposed Electoral Bill, which is to include a provision for the statutory establishment of a commission to prepare proposals for the revision of constituencies, was not published in the Dáil session prior to Easter, 1994, as indicated in reply to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 57 and 70 of 9 February 1994; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Drafting of the Electoral Bill, which will include provision for the establishment of a Constituency Commission on a statutory basis, has taken longer than had been anticipated. The work is now at an advanced stage and it is envisaged that the Bill will be circulated in the near future.
