Vol. 444 No. 6

Written Answers. - Vaccination for Health Workers.

Liz McManus

Question:

109 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment when he intends to implement the EU directive whereby hepatitis B vaccination will be made available free of charge to health workers, including doctors and local authority workers, at risk from exposure to biological agents.

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Biological Agents) Regulations (S.I. No. 146 of 1994) implement the EU Directive referred to by the Deputy. Under the terms of these Regulations employers are obliged to make effective vaccination available free of charge to employees who are not already immune to a biological agent (including the hepatitis B virus) to which they are exposed or likely to be exposed.
