Vol. 444 No. 6

Written Answers. - Child Care Arrangements.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

70 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the proposals, if any, he has for child care facilities for parents who are trainees.

I am of the opinion that the issue of child care arrangements for parents who are trainees must be considered in the context of an overall framework for child care arrangements generally.

The Minister for Equality and Law Reform last March published the report of the Working Group on Childcare facilities for Working Parents and his Department has had formal consultations with relevant Government Departments including my own Department with regard to the contents and recommendations of this report.

The question of resources will be central to any initiatives to be taken by FÁS following on the recommendations of the report and the commitments on the issue of childcare facilities for trainees in the Programme for Competitiveness and Work.
