Vol. 447 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Improvements to Regional Road.

Phil Hogan

Question:

202 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide finance in 1995 to remove a bottle neck on the regional road from Kilkenny to New Ross at the Rower Village, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3405/94]

Responsibility for the improvement and maintenance of the road concerned is a matter for Kilkenny County Council using its own resources, supplemented by the State grants allocated annually to the council. The council has applied for funding in 1995 for this road under the EU co-financed scheme of specific improvement grants for non-national roads. Applications from local authorities generally for these grants will be assessed on their merits and by reference to the conditions governing the grants scheme. The 1995 allocations in respect of road grants generally will be notified early next year.
