191 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the plans, if any, he has to improve the feed conversion rate in the pig industry; his views on whether there is a need for intensified research in this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1893/95]
I have established a working group whose specific remit will be to examine in detail all areas of pig production with a view to reducing production costs and increasing efficiency. This working group, which will include representatives of Teagasc, will focus in particular on better utilisation of feed and improved feed conversion efficiency.
