Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Limerick Animal Health Problems.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

172 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment whether he intends to meet with persons in the Askeaton/Ballysteen area of County Limerick in view of the increasing numbers of livestock owners reporting animal and human health problems in that area. [14404/96]

The Environmental Protection Agency has, since February 1995, been co-ordinating the investigation into the animal health problems in the Askeaton-Ballysteen area of County Limerick. The human and animal health elements of the investigation are being undertaken by the Mid-Western Health Board and the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry respectively. The investigation is ongoing and I have no request or plans at this time for a meeting with persons in the area.
