Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreign Travel.

Ivor Callely

Question:

589 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the projected number of visits which he will undertake between now and the end of December 1996, in the context of Ireland's Presidency of the EU, to EU member destinations, other European destinations, North American destinations, African destinations and other destinations; the total cost of such travel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16646/96]

I expect to undertake three visits to European Union member state destinations between now and the end of December in the context of Ireland's Presidency of the European Union. The visits relate to the chairing of Council of Ministers meetings and an address to a European Parliament committee. There are no planned visits to North America, Africa or other destinations in this context. The total cost of all visits will be determined by a number of factors, for example, availability of commercial flights, duration of visits, size of delegation, etc. It should be noted that the cost of attendance at Council of Ministers meetings is refundable from the EU Council secretariat.
