Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

240 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine when moneys for coastal erosion will be allocated for 1997; and if he will make a statement on the level of priority that a county with serious coastal erosion problems such as County Donegal can expect to receive. [8470/97]

The 1997 allocation of funding for coastal protection works under the Environment Services Operational Programme will be made shortly.

All local authorities are given equal treatment under the operational programme. Priority proposals have been submitted by the coastal local authorities and these proposals are considered annually for inclusion in each year's programme of works, having regard to the nature of the proposal, the rate of erosion, the cost benefit involved and the funding levels available.
