Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

146 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment the type of grant aid, if any, which is available to an individual person or family who bore their own water well; and if grant aid is available to those who have already bored their well. [8990/97]

As already announced, I propose to introduce a new scheme of grants, amounting to 75 per cent of the cost subject to a maximum of £1,600 per house, for the provision of new or improved domestic water supplies to houses which are not connected to either a public or group water supply. The detailed terms and conditions of the new scheme will be announced as soon as possible. However, grants will not be available in respect of works already carried out. It is intended that prior approval will be required before any grant-aided works can be commenced.
