Limerick East): I understand the person in question had orthopaedic surgery carried out in the Adelaide Hospital and died subsequently. I also understand from the Dublin City Coroner that the death was notified to him. A post mortem was carried out and a report forwarded to the coroner. On receipt of the pathology report, the coroner decided to hold an inquest. The inquest commenced on 15 June 1995 and was adjourned by the coroner so that he could seek an independent expert view of the medical evidence given by the pathologist and doctors. On 20 March 1996, the inquest was resumed before the jury and an independent consultant haematologist was present at the request of the coroner and gave evidence. The family were represented by senior counsel. The jury brought in a verdict of death by misadventure. In the circumstances, I am not aware of any implications for the blood supply.
