Question:103 Mr. M. Smith asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve a replacement fire tender engine for Ballingarry Tipperary South Riding Fire Brigade. [11849/97]

The distribution of fire appliances among its brigades is a matter for the fire authority, in this case Tipperary South Riding County Council. A proposal from the council to invite tenders for a new fire appliance is at present under consideration in my Department having regard to the level of funding available for the fire services capital programme and the competing demands on these funds. A decision will be conveyed to the council as soon as possible.
