Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

88 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if grant aid will be made available to Galway County Council for completion of the work on Cleggan Pier, Connemara, County Galway, in view of the fact that it is necessary to provide for a painting slip, to continue a walkway and to finish the parking and loading location; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7303/98]

My Department provided more than £100,000 towards repair and refurbishment works at Cleggan Pier in 1997. Further funding is under consideration for the current year. In the context of the limited overall funding available for fishery harbour development, the sourcing of funds to undertake the additional works referred to by the Deputy will have to be reviewed in the first instance with Galway County Council.
