Ulick Burke

Question:

510 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans he has to meet the parents of children denied school facilities at Drim national school, Kylebrask, Loughrea, County Galway; the reason he has not met them since the end of April 2000 when he gave an undertaking to do so; the plans he has to resolve the situation in order that their confidence can be restored in education; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18466/00]

The Deputy will be aware that a primary teacher is employed by the managerial authority of the school. Matters relating to the employment of a teacher in a primary school in the first instance are a matter for the managerial authority of the school.

Officials of my Department have met the parents of the school referred to and discussed the issues involved. The officials have also discussed the issues with the managerial authority and the INTO.

Officials of my Department are available at all times to have further discussions with the parties involved.
